Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Alzheimer’s Disease Disparities (CIRAD)
The Columbia Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Alzheimer's Disease Disparities (CIRAD) is a Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR) funded by the National Institute of Aging (NIA) that supports scientists from backgrounds historically excluded in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) research, to address gaps in knowledge about AD disparities.
Recent Events & Updates (Jul-Oct 2024):
- Indira Turney (Year 2) joined the National Institute on Aging’s Laboratory of Epidemiology & Population Sciences (LEPS), Health Disparities Research Section as an Earl Stadtman Tenure-Track Investigator and an NIH Distinguished Scholar Award.
- Miguel Arce-Renteria (Year 2) has been recently awarded an R01 for his project ¨Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias: Cross-national longitudinal prognosis and risk factors”.
- Pablo Martínez-Amezcua (Year 5) has been awarded an R21 grant for his project ¨The Role of Language Acculturation in the Hearing Loss-Cognition Association Among Hispanics in the US.”
- David Camacho (Year 3) led the webinar "Trauma & Aging: Engagement of Older Latinx Individuals Using Trauma-Informed Clinical and Research Practices," organized by the American Society on Aging.
- Chinwe Ibeh (Year 6) has authored three new articles: “Incident stroke in individuals with peripartum cardiomyopathy,” published in American Heart Journal, Volume 275, September 2024, pages 138-140; “Race-ethnicity, age, and heart failure in ischemic stroke,¨ published in Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, June 2024; and “Association of aortic valve calcium with dementia and stroke: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis¨, published in Atherosclerosis, Vol. 396, July 2024.
- Michael Oliver (Year 4) has authored "Beyond Hypertension: Examining Variable Blood Pressure's Role in Cognition and Brain Structure,¨ published in Journals of Gerontology Series B Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences, Vol 79, Issue 9, September 2024.
- John Pamplin II (Year 6) has been invited to present at at the NIA’s John Ruffin Seminar on Friday, Nov 8.
