CurePSP Center of Care

The Neurological Institute at Columbia University Irving Medical Center has been designated a Center of Care by CurePSP since 2021. This designation acknowledges our excellence and leadership in comprehensive patient care, clinical research, professional education, and patient outreach related to atypical parkinsonian syndromes, including Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), Cortical Basal Degeneration (CBD), and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).

The CurePSP Center of Care is co-directed by Dr. Serge Przedborski and Dr. Lawrence Honig. Dr. Przedborski is the chief of the Division of Movements Disorders. He is a movement disorders specialist with academic interests that focus on the molecular and cellular biology of neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson's disease (PD) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Dr. Lawrence Honig directs the  New York State Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease, co-directs the Lewy Body Disease Association Research Center of Excellence, and is a principal investigator for clinical drug trials, observational research, and translational biomarker research, for neurodegenerative conditions including Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Lewy Body Disease, Frontotemporal Degeneration, and Alzheimer Disease.

Interdisciplinary Team of Experts

The CurePSP Center of Care at CUIMC offers patients and their families comprehensive, specialized care for atypical parkinsonian syndromes. Our interdisciplinary team of experts is trained to address the neurological, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional needs of those coming to our clinical offices. We actively work with patients and their families to develop individualized treatment plans and recommendations.

Research

The CurePSP Center of Care at CUIMC is also actively engaged in outstanding basic science, translational science, and clinical research in atypical parkinsonian syndromes. Dr. Honig has acted as principal investigator for both observational research studies and clinical trials. Persons with PSP might currently consider participation in the ALLFTD study, which is observational, and the PROSPER investigational drug study trial. In addition to PSP, our center also has research efforts in MSA and CBD.
