In Memoriam: Dale Hesdorffer, PhD
With sadness and regret, the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center announces the death of our colleague, Dale C. Hesdorffer, PhD, who passed away on January 22, 2024 at the age of 66, following a prolonged illness. Dr. Hesdorffer was a professor of epidemiology (in the Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center) at CUMC. After graduating from Barnard College in 1981, she earned her MPH (1991), MPhil (1990), and PhD (1993) in epidemiology from the Mailman School of Public Health. Dr. Hesdorffer joined the Sergievsky Center as a research scholar under the mentorship of Dr. W. Allen Hauser in 1991, and remained there for the duration of her career, publishing more than 175 scholarly articles on the epidemiology of epilepsy, and serving on numerous editorial and advisory boards. Dale was a warm, thoughtful, engaging colleague and friend, and will be sorely missed. We extend our sincere sympathies to her family, including husband, Richard Miller, daughter Olivia Miller, and sister Jan Nusbaum.
