Martin Picard, PhD, Associate Professor of Behavioral Medicine, studies mitochondria and its influence on the health of the human brain. “There’s an emerging notion that energy is really important to health,” says Dr. Picard “But we don’t have a way to look at bioenergetics across the entire human brain.” To learn more, Dr. Picard and colleagues, including Philip De Jager, MD, PhD, and Vilas Menon, PhD, at the Center for Translational and Computational Neuroimmunology, worked on a project called MitoBrainMap, first of a first-of-a-kind map of the brain’s mitochondria. “MitoBrainMap marks a milestone toward understanding the energy landscape underlying brain health, with implications for tracing the origin of neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders and developing new approaches to treatment.” [read more]
